Alan Rogers has been a professional jazz pianist, bandleader and composer for many years.
He has recorded for Polydor (UK), Major Minor, VJM and Surprise Records and for many years regularly recorded sessions with his trio and quartet for BBC Radio 2 on which many of his own compositions were first performed. In the mid-70s Sammy Cahn, who was in London doing his one-man show at the Drury Lane Theatre, heard some of Alan’s compositions and was impressed enough to agree to write the lyrics to his songs (Jack Jones was to sing them) for a film having the working title ‘The Tender Trespasser’, which unfortunately was never made due to a shortfall in financial backing. Later, after moving to Switzerland he wrote the original music (with Patrick Frey as lyricist) for the very successful comedy ‘Trommeln über Mittag’.
For many years from the 1980s to the mid noughties he played cocktail piano for many of the best hotels and bars in Europe, from Cyprus and Greece to Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
Alan now leads ‘Mayfair Lady’, a small group featuring the fine vocalist Silvia Müller, John Service and Simon Palser.
He also plays with the ‘Black Bottom Stompers’, a band specialising in jazz of the 20s.
He has been resident in Zürich for over 30 years. |
